A collaborative study in the US, published in the British Medical Journal, revealed the impact of a delayed second dose of COVID-19 vaccines on infections, hospital admission, and mortality compared to the two-dose regimen. According to the simulation agent-based modelling, a delayed second dose vaccination strategy could reduce the overall mortality, at least in people below 65 years. The current morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19 have raised many questions on the effective distribution and administration of vaccines.
With only 10% of the population being vaccinated in developed countries like the US and the UK, the major concern is if the overall mortality can be reduced by finding better strategies to vaccinate people of different age groups optimally.
