Acetaminophen is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. However, a study has reported an association between prenatal exposure to acetaminophen and neurobehavioral problems, including attention and sleep difficulties, in offspring at three years of age. The researchers studied more than 2,400 women from the third trimester of pregnancy to three years after delivery. Women were asked about their stress levels and frequency of medication usage throughout their pregnancies.

41.7% of pregnant women reported acetaminophen usage. The neurobehavioral issues in children were evaluated using responses from the 99-item Child Behavior Checklist.
