This is the culture pattern of Staph aureus from a soft tissue infection (abscess). The pattern had been similar over the past few months for 5 children. Not sensitive to Amox/clav and ceftriaxone. And increasingly sensitive to amikacin.
This child was treated with oral ampiclox and there was good clinical improvement. For severe infection, septicemia, necrotising pneumonis and osteomyelitis, what is the first line of drug? Is IVIG effective in severe infections? Is there any emerging pattern of resistance to vancomycin, teicopanin and linezolid?
