The guidelines for fasting times are quite well defined to aid the anesthesiologists to perform anesthesia. Current guidelines in pediatric patients over 6 months describe 2 hours of fasting time for clear fluids. However, for some emergency surgeries, this fasting time may be a limiting constraint. The r ecently published study suggests that fasting time of 1 hour doesn’t produce a significantly important difference in gastric pH. The current guidelines regarding the fasting time for clear liquids state that it should be 2 hours prior to elective procedures in which general or regional anesthesia is required.
