Medical Council of India has permitted medical colleges to employ non-medical postgraduates to teach subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Bacteriology. There is nothing personal against these type of teachers, but certainly I find them inadequate teachers who would send doctors in field, whose basics are weak. Instead, Medical Council should consider clinicians to teach these subjects. For example Surgeons, Urologists, Orthopedic surgeons, Neurosurgeons should be incorporated for teaching anatomy.

Similarily physicians, cardiologists etc should be part of physiology teaching. Pharmacology should be reinforced by various physicians and surgeons and so on. The posts presently allotted to non-medical teachers should be filled by say Surgeons in Anatomy, Physicians in physiology, biochemistry, Microbiology. This will also make the teaching composite and…
