The Supreme Court, India, has ruled that no punitive measures will be taken against doctors currently protesting the recent violence against a PG resident doctor in Kolkata. However, the Court has mandated that the doctors must resume their duties. The Chief Justice emphasized that while the Court supports the institutionalization of safety measures for medical professionals, it expects doctors to return to work while the National Task Force (NTF) continues to address safety concerns.
The Court has also instructed that if any actions have been taken against protesting doctors, no further coercive steps should be pursued once they return to their posts.
