In a notable surgical milestone, a urology team at a private hospital in Mumbai successfully performed a robotic-assisted prostatectomy to remove a benign prostate weighing 550 grams, approximately 20 times the normal size, from a 70-year-old man. This is believed to be the largest prostate ever removed robotically. The procedure was led by the Director of the Urology Department using the da Vinci Xi surgical system.

The patient had a six-year history of progressive urinary obstruction and recurrent infections. The case was considered high risk because of significant cardiac comorbidities, the presence of a pacemaker, and the extreme size of the gland, making conventional open surgery a much less favorable option. To safely manage the massive gland, the surgical team first reduced the blood supply and then bisected the prostate within the bladder cavity, removing it in two halves ofโ€ฆ
