The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHaP), UAE followed the lead of the US-FDA and cautioned people against the use of microscopic hydrogel as an alternative to glasses and contact lenses. The warning was issued after US-FDA stated that patients undergoing surgery for implantation of the microscopic hydrogel are at a risk of developing cornea hypertrophy. An alert was raised by government health officials against the use of an unregulated medical device which promises to improve eyesight .

The MoHaP took this decision after the US-FDA issued a caution notice to people against the use of an implantable microscopic hydrogel that was claimed to improve eyesight .
