The recently published guidelines on varicose veins in the lower extremity by the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS), the American Venous Forum (AVF), and the American Vein and Lymphatic Society (AVLS) include recommendations based on the latest scientific evidence for effective management of patients. Part I of the guidelines discusses the role of duplex ultrasound scanning (DUS) in the assessment of varicose veins and the management of superficial truncal reflux.
Part II emphasizes evidence for patients with compression, supporting prevention and management of varicose veins, using drugs and nutritional supplements, treating varicose tributaries, dealing with superficial venous aneurysms, and managing complications.
