Spasticity is a motor disorder characterised by an increase in the tone of the limbs caused by a UMN lesion. The assessment of spasticity is by clinical examination and using the Modified Ashworth scale. The usual description is like a clasp knife that will show the greatest resistance at the initiation of the movement.
