Medical students become doctors because they want to help patients get better. However, they find that medical practice is not a bed of roses. Every doctor deals with heartache and heartburn on a daily basis , and this could come from multiple different sources. Some of it is caused  by the nature of medical science itself. We agonise when our patients don't improve. We want all our patients to get better, and when they don't , this causes personal distress. What can I do differently?

Am I missing something ? Should I be referring her to another hospital ? Should I ask for a consultation ? Medicine is complex , and we cannot always control the outcome, but we don't spend sleepless nights worrying about our patients. Patients and their relatives can be extremely ungrateful, and if there is a complication, they may complain that proper care was not taken. Some become abusive, and others…
