Around 30 residents of Chikkatekahalli village in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district developed vomiting and diarrhea, prompting health officials to investigate the source of the outbreak. Laboratory testing of water samples detected E. coli contamination in illegally sold 20-litre drinking water cans supplied by a private water purification unit operating without valid authorization after its license had expired. Following the findings, authorities sealed the purification unit and storage tanks, stopped further distribution, and initiated legal action against the water supplier and unit owner.
