There was a recent tragedy at AIIMS where a pregnant lady died during a cesarean section. There was a huge furor, strident militancy, demand for action against the involved medical personnel, a group divide between doctors and nurses and precipitate administrative action. It also led to a discussion in our forum which was full of empathy, emotions, and soul searching. It was indeed sad that the there was a maternal death.
Death is final irreversible and one that occurs after a medical intervention automatically leads to a blame game and this was no exception. Ever since the event, I have wanted to react yet I must confess, I did not initially have the courage simply because I did not want to face the ire of my colleagues and juniors, I am ashamed of my lack of guts.
