In my state, the Mediperson (Prevention of Violence) Act was passed by Assembly and promulgated with an amendment of rules to take care of antisocial elements who indulge in misbehaviour and violence against doctors on duty. The offence has been made non-bailable with maximum punishment up to 3 years in prison. On paper looks doctor friendly and adequate to get rid of perpetual threat while doing your duty in difficult situations. I feel that such incidents are perpetrated by mobs, people under intoxication and those lurking in a euphoria of power.

Reciprocally, it may increase the number of cases filed against doctors for compensation or penal action under CPA or CPC or CrPC Will police be able to pinpoint the culprit or they will register a case against unknown people. Hopefully, there should be a palpable decline in such incidents in future. I am afraid whether this law will also…
