Polio was once a worldwide spread disease, mostly paralyzing children under 5 years. Without polio eradication efforts, more than 15 million healthy people would have been a victim of polio. Though polio has been completely eradicated from many parts of the world, 3 polio endemic countries viz. Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria still exist, maybe due to weak health system and poor sanitation.

Efforts taken by various organizations:  Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) is one of the largest private-public partners in healthcare which has made efforts to eradicate polio by 99% . More than 16 million people have been saved from paralysis due to and efficient cost effective vaccines available against polio.
