There have been recent reports on emergence of a non-life-threatening disease, Tomato flu , in few states in India. The name comes from the main symptom of this disease, the tomato-shaped blisters on several body parts. The disease was speculated to be caused by a new virus. However, recent reports have confirmed it to be a clinical variant of hand, foot, and mouth disease. It is caused by the Coxsackie virus A16, a virus belonging to the Enterovirus family.
