Teeth sensitivity or dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a feeling of a mild-to-severe pain in the gums that can last for several hours. It is also referred to as the common cold of dentistry. It is a condition that arises from exposed dentin to stimuli such as heat, cold, chemicals, sweets, acidic food, etc. Teeth sensitivity can develop at any time; however, it is mostly reported between 20 to 40 years of age. The sensitivity pain can be for a while or can last longer in the worst cases.

In a recent cross-sectional study with patients of different age groups, 27% of the participants had DH. Posterior and anterior mandibular teeth were the most affected teeth. Only 21% of the participants used desensitizing agents, which indicated that people were not aware of their dental condition and hence did not receive any treatment.
