Seat belts are effective in reducing major and fatal injuries in motor accidents because seat belts alter the distribution of the force, attempting to place it across less vulnerable pelvic area. Although seat belts are effective in reducing injuries, some injuries are caused due to seat belts. Current article focuses on managing treatment for seat belt injuries. Mechanical forces cause different patterns of injury and accordingly the onset of signs and symptoms are different. Abdominal viscus and vertebral lesions must be also considered.
