UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention has officially approved and registered the treatment for Mantle Cell Lymphoma, following accelerated approval by US FDA. This makes UAE the second global country to introduce the treatment, giving new hopes to the rare blood cancer patients. This approval is a new hope for the rare blood cancer patients. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare aggressive B-cell type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma that accounts for about 2%-10% of the non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. It has a poor prognosis with a 10-year survival rate around 5%-10%.
The exact cause of MCL is still unknown, but around 85% of MCL patients have been found to have a genetic abnormality known as a translocation between chromosome 11 and 14.
