A study published in The Lancet has estimated that 828 million adults worldwide had diabetes in 2022, an increase of 630 million since 1990. The study aimed to assess trends in diabetes prevalence and treatment across 200 countries and territories. It analyzed data from 1,108 studies involving 141 million participants aged 18 and above.

Prevalence of diabetes Among the 828 million adult diabetes patients, India had the highest number of cases (212 million), followed by China (148 million), the USA (42 million), Pakistan (36 million), Indonesia (25 million), and Brazil (22 million).
