The US FDA has approved adapalene 0.1%/benzoyl peroxide 2.5% gel (Differin Epiduo Acne Gel), a fixed-dose combination acne treatment, for over-the-counter use in individuals aged 12 years and older. While this combination of a retinoid and benzoyl peroxide will be available OTC in the US, it will remain a prescription-only product outside the US. The gel is indicated to help clear existing acne and prevent new breakouts.
Clinical Evidence Clinical trials demonstrated that adapalene/benzoyl peroxide gel was more effective than adapalene alone, benzoyl peroxide alone, and vehicle gel in reducing inflammatory, non-inflammatory, and total acne lesions, as well as improving Investigator Global Assessment (IGA) success rates.
