The USFDA recently approved omidubicel-onlv, an expanded hematopoietic progenitor cell and nonexpanded lymphoid and myeloid cell derivative obtained from an umbilical cord blood unit for adults and pediatric patients above 12 years of age with blood cancer. This approval was based on the findings of a randomized multistage trial where 125 patients in the age group of 13 to 65 years with hematological malignancies were randomly assigned to transplantation with omidubicel-onlv and umbilical cord blood (UCBT). The neutrophil engraftment time was 12 and 22 days for transplantation with omidubicel-onlv and UCBT groups, respectively.
