Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer in women worldwide. It is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women in 140 of 184 countries worldwide. About 1 in 3,000 pregnant and lactating women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Since 2008, worldwide breast cancer incidence has increased by more than 20% and mortality has increased by 14%.

According to the Union Health Ministry, breast cancer rate in Indian women is 25.8 per 100,000 and mortality rate is 12.7 per 100,000 women. It is estimated that over 50 – 60% women die due to late diagnosis of breast cancer.
