Obesity poses a unique and growing challenge in the development, progression, and management of abdominal wall hernias. Increased intra-abdominal pressure, altered tissue biology, and impaired wound healing significantly raise the risk of hernia formation, recurrence, and postoperative complications in patients with obesity. Understanding the complex interplay between excess weight and abdominal wall integrity is essential for optimizing surgical decision-making, timing of intervention, and long-term outcomes in this patient population. In collaboration with the Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Surgeons’ Community, we present an informative session on “Weight vs Wall: Obesity and Hernia,” featuring a panel of eminent surgeons.
