Pharmacists at Singapore’s most prominent government hospital have sought to transform the access of medicines to customers by providing them with convenient access to medications via smart vending machines and teleconsultation. In such an effort, the Health Sciences Authority has approved a pharmacy smart interface system to prescribe pharmacy-only medications under the supervision of a hospital’s pharmacist through teleconsultation since April, 2023. The pharmacist will first conduct a teleconsultation to evaluate the patient and make appropriate drug and health advice recommendations.

An interactive screen will display information on medications for common mild illnesses, including fever, cough, cold, diarrhea, and constipation. The system can automatically control humidity and temperature and also give pharmacists access to a real-time video stream of the dispensing process.…
