A five year child presented with h/o 3 episodes of simple febrile seizures in last 3 - 4 months. Two times CT scan of brain done. CBC and all cultures were normal. ESR was mildly elevated. During 4th episode of SFS got admitted in my ward. Above tests didn't reveal anything and so anyhow persuaded father to get LP done. Every time he empirically received antibiotic after admission in other hospital and was discharged well.
I did the LP but since the child was restless and uncooperative needle inadvertently entered into 3rd lumbar paraspinal space and some cheesy material came out of the needle which clinched the diagnosis. What's the diagnosis? Kindly suggest. I concluded the answer on 23rd December 2015. The cheesy material was thick pus from paraspinal abscess and confirmed by CT.Drainage and antibiotic course cured the child forever.
