A 13 year old girl is a resident of the sports school and presents with left sided ankle pain since 6 weeks. The pain had started during a period of intensive athletic training in preparation for national sports festival. She does not give any history of trauma. She has no previous medical history, drug intake or chronic illness. In the beginning she had been assessed by the school doctor. An X-ray taken 6 weeks prior was normal and she was given NSAIDs. The pain was initially present only during running activities. But it progressed slowly and currently affects normal degree of walking.
The patient points the pain to the antero-medial aspect of the foot. On examination, there is no swelling or erythema on the left foot. Dorsiflexion of the foot is limited.
