I recently had a patient with fever, untreated diabetes Widal Positive, tender hepatomegaly. Platelet Count 66000 On starting Cefixime OBD the patient experienced significant relief. On examination, the patient had no fever, no hepatic tenderness. The platelet count was advised daily. It steadily increased from 66000 to 84000 to 88000 in three days. On day 5, suddenly the count dropped to 52000. No symptoms, no fever.
Immediate hospitalisation was advice. What could be the reason? LFT was Normal. Rbc WBC was WNL I started the patient on metformin 500 tds for Diabetes. Is there any drug to increase platelet count? At what platelet count an asymptomatic patient should be hospitalised? Kindly suggest.
