The World Health Organization has proposed adding gaming disorder to its list of disorders due to addictive behaviors. The draft document describes gaming disorder as a "pattern of persistent or recurrent" video-gaming "manifested by: Impaired control over gaming (e.g., onset, frequency, intensity, duration, termination, context); Increasing priority is given to gaming to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other life interests and daily activities; and Continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences." The pattern of behavior lasts at least 12 months before a diagnosis is made.
