One of the reasons healthcare in India is now on a steep, downwards spiral is because patients don't trust doctors. To add fuel to fire, doctors don't trust patients either. Unless this trust deficit is overcome, things are just going to go from bad to worse. Most doctors who start medical practice with good intentions.
However, a few patients take them for a ride by taking advantage of their business naïveté. Thus, they may refuse to pay them their consultation fees; or they bargain for a discount after the treatment is over; or they expect the doctor to be on call 24/7, because they have paid for his services, and feel they have bought his time.
