Paediatrics, gynaecology and obstetrics and PSM departments contribute more to making a socialist out of a budding medical student than any other speciality (statement of facts, nothing against these specialities). They have done so by being responsible for, probably what is the most important aspect of public health, mother and child health. How socialism cripples us to live in the modern world is best illustrated by a conversation I had with one of my colleagues, a paediatrician. The question I posed to her was that what would she do if there were a poor and malnourished child admitted with her?
