Chemistry: It is a procainamide without anti-arrhythmic properties like it. Presntation: 10 mg tablets, 5 mg/ ml metoclopramide hydrochloride injection. Pharmacokinetics: Oral route - Rapidly absorbed & bioavailability is 30 to 90%.Wide variations seen due to high first pass metabolism. Distribution:- 10-20 % protein bound, crosses placenta & blood brain barrier &secreted in milk. Metabolism:- Partly conjugated in liver to form sulphate derivative. Excretion :- via kidneys within 24 hrs.

Dose adjustment is required in renal diseases. Action: Onset - after oral route - 30 --45 minutes IM Injection - 10 minutes IV Injection - 2 minutes Duration of action: 4 to 6 hours. Dose: Oral 10 mg 8th hourly. 2 mg to 0.5 mg/ kg IV for prevention of nausea & vomiting and Aspiration prophylaxis upto 1 mg/ kg IV for chemotherapy induced vomiting.
