Unhealthy diet is one of the main reason for obesity. Junk foods are refined, high in calories, very tasty and are highly addictive. Will people, addicted to these unhealthy foods, stop eating them just because tax is imposed on these foods? Will an addicted person stop drinking and smoking, if tax is imposed on alcohol and cigarettes? Past experience in Denmark suggests that ‘sugar tax’ is not helpful.
If tax is going to help what should be the percentage of tax? What should government do with that money? Will government spend that money to increase awareness on importance of healthy diet and exercise? Ban, Tax or Awareness - Which will help?
