Every year, on 14 th June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. The event serves to raise awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood. Donate Blood, Save Life!!! This guideline is developed to fill the knowledge gap in accepted levels of haemoglobin and other variables for blood donation.

These gaps reflect several patient variables that are involved in this decision-making process. Broadly, these variables include the current health status of the patient, their co-existing morbidities, adaptive responses to anaemia, their haemoglobin value and its trend, their blood volume status, performance scores, nutritional status and bone marrow response to anaemia.
