World Population Day is observed on 11 th July every year to raise awareness about global population issues such as gender equality, poverty, family planning, maternal health, and human rights. Around 50% of the pregnancies that occur worldwide are unintended. Unintended pregnancies can have adverse consequences, such as serious pregnancy complications, or unsafe abortion contributing to maternal and infant mortality. The use of contraception and access to related services reduces unintended pregnancies, improves women’s overall health, and profoundly impacts women’s and their family’s lives.
