A heart team at Kauvery Heart Institute, Chennai, has reported what is believed to be the world's first completely catheter based treatment of both failing valves in a patient who had previously undergone a Ross procedure. The intervention allowed the team to avoid repeat open heart surgery in a 58 year old man with advanced valvular disease and recurrent heart failure. The patient had undergone a Ross procedure nearly 25 years earlier.
He later developed severe aortic regurgitation, severe pulmonary regurgitation with moderate pulmonary stenosis, severe pulmonary hypertension, and moderate mitral regurgitation.
