Injury and trauma are neglected epidemic in developing countries, causing more than five million deaths each year, roughly equal to the number of deaths from HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. According to the recent WHO report, by 2020 Trauma will be the third largest killer in the developing world. Traumatic injuries result in the tremendous amount of disability and mortality in countries like India, especially in the low and middle-income group.

Considering the magnitude of the problem and its socio-economic impact, little has been achieved in terms of scientific research and education in the field of Trauma Care in our country.
