A team of doctors from the Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns in California, USA successfully delivered the world’s tiniest baby girl at 23 weeks and 3 days of gestational age and weighing just 245 grams. The baby’s mother was admitted to the hospital due to a worsening health condition. After clinical investigation, it was found that she was suffering from preeclampsia , a state characterized by high blood pressure that can risk the lives of both the mother and the baby. Therefore, the doctors had to deliver the baby via an emergency cesarean section .

Post-birth, the baby was treated in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for nearly five months. During her stay in the NICU, the baby girl gained a healthy 2.2 kg weight and was subsequently discharged in good health from the hospital.
