A diagnostic error that reportedly led to several rounds of chemotherapy has resulted in a compensation order of Rs 23.36 lakh against a doctor and a private hospital in Jaipur. The case involved a woman from Bharatpur who presented with abdominal pain and other health complaints at the private hospital in October 2022. She was advised diagnostic investigations at another center, and subsequent reports reportedly raised suspicion of malignancy. According to the case presented before the Lok Adalat, cancer-directed treatment was then initiated without a confirmatory diagnosis.

The patient's condition, however, failed to improve despite repeated chemotherapy. A diagnostic rethink came in January 2023 when her family sought further evaluation at a reputed institute in Mumbai. Investigations reportedly indicated tuberculosis rather than cancer.
