In relation with the e-health programme started in 2017, the health department in Kannur has decided to allow medical shops to provide medicines according to WhatsApp prescription sent by doctors. As an initial step, doctors and medical shops should form a WhatsApp group and provide description transcript written on doctor’s letter pad along with their registration number. For transparency, the doctor can send the image of the prescription either to the medical shop which the patient prefers or the consulting patient on the WhatsApp group. Print out of that prescription can also be utilized to buy medicines.

While prescription should also be sent through e-mail. Sildenafil citrate, psychotropic drugs, abortion and sleeping pills are the exceptions in this programme. Source- Mathrubhumi
