The Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) has directed closure notices to 141 private hospitals for violating the norms of environment and discharging untreated wastes into the nearby water bodies. The closure notice stated that the inspection was conducted across the state to analyse the hospitals that do not have effluent treatment plants (ETPs) installed, to dispose liquid waste in the water bodies. It was found that many hospitals are having such plants but are not operating them regularly.
The board would soon conduct inspections in the rest of the state. The notice is issued in 20 districts across the state including 141 hospitals in total, such as 9 in Darbhanga, 8 in Begusarai, 8 in Munger, 7 in Muzaffarpur, 6 in Gopalganj, 6 in Siwan, 5 in Saran, 5 in Samastipur, 12 in Sitamarahi, 7 in Madhubani, 5 in East Champaran, 13 in Bhagalpur, 9 in Gaya, 8 in West Champaran, 5…
