Under Cardiovascular Disease section from American College of Cardiology published on March 2019 Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity across the world. Despite substantial improvement in the disease outcome, ASCVD remains the leading cause of death across various racial and ethnic groups. The increased incidence rate combined with the high cost of medication/healthcare services and loss in an individual’s productivity due to ASCVD vastly contributes towards the global economic burden of the disease.
Therefore, proper identification of the risk factors holds great importance in the development of preventive and interventional strategies for ASCVD.
