Surprised? But believe it or not, a leading hospital at New Delhi has hired 36 doctors simply to operate ventilators, a task usually performed by OT technicians . The biggest state-run healthcare centre in Delhi was facing a shortage of anesthetists and OT technicians. Furthermore, the hospital was given 35 ventilators by the government in March as it was lacking the life support systems. However, most of these machines had been lying unused for past of three months since the hospital did not have the required manpower to run them.
According to the sources, the hospital has failed to recruit the required number of technicians due to certain procedural hurdles. In this regard, the medical director said that, "OT technicians can be recruited through the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSB) only. We cannot hire them.
