Diabetic retinopathy is a microvascular complication associated with diabetes, characterized by the loss of vision and progressive capillary occlusion, leading to retinal ischemia and breakdown of the blood-retinal barrier. It is the leading cause of blindness among diabetics. Laser photo regulation, control of systemic blood glucose, cholesterol, and lipids are a few interventions. Despite the best interventions possible, surgery may be needed for diabetic retinopathy due to its rapid progression.
