The income tax department seized over Rs 80 crore cash in massive searches conducted in Chennai and Puducherry at an education trust that runs several institutions in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The raids were being jointly conducted by the CBI's Anti-Corruption Bureau in tandem with the IT Department.The IT officials found the cash packed in cartons during the searches conducted at three premier institutions at Chennai, Puducherry, and Kodaikanal. This trust runs two medical colleges, two engineering colleges, one dental and one nursing college.
About 50 IT officials under deputy commissioner of taxes launched a raid.
