It is a true incident in which maternal uncle and his nephew died of uncontrolled bleeding after teeth extraction on the same day by the same Dental Surgeon. Similarly, I am aware of a case who collapsed and died after local Xylocaine injection given before extraction of a tooth. Such complications can occur though uncommon and may lead to death and a serious problem for the treating Surgeon. In the above case, the legal suit was settled after many years after out of Court settlement ! I would be interested in knowing the protocol in the light of above two incidents.
Should a doctor specifically ask or test for Haemophilia or it should come as a voluntary declaration from the patient. Secondly, reaction to injection Xylocaine can take place even after negative sensitivity testing. My other doubt is whether dental surgeon is legally right in treating such reactions or complications ? Or…
