Candidemia is a fungal bloodstream infection and a common form of invasive candidiasis. Endocarditis, peritonitis, meningitis, osteomyelitis, arthritis, and endophthalmitis are some other forms of invasive candidiasis. Candidemia incidences have increased over the years, accounting for a large proportion of hospital-acquired blood infections. In a US-based study, the disease ranked fourth in nosocomial blood infections, and the fatality rates associated with it are 39.2% and 47.1% for ICU.
