Researchers from Abu Dhabi have shown that adjustment disorder, acute reaction to stress, and depression were prominent reseasons for suicide attempts in Abu Dhabi. The study published in Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal also indicated that medication overdose was the most common method of suicide attempts. A suicide attempt significantly increases the chance of completing suicide and is specifically higher in the first year following the attempt. Previous studies have shown that the risk of completing suicide among suicide attempters remains high for up to nine years, and 2% of them complete the suicide.
