Since the Indian law allows abortion only up to 20 weeks of pregnancy several situations may arise when an ObGyn must take a stand. The pregnant woman may want to abort her unborn due to a host of socioeconomic or personal conditions. Often, they are more than 20 weeks pregnant.
Should the ObGyn be sympathetic to the patient and opt for the abortion? If you think opting for an abortion would be “unlawful” in such conditions, do you think the law must have provisions to allow abortion on a merit basis?
