A 62-year-old woman had acute pain in upper and lower abdomen. Urine routine examination showed presence of 20 to 30 pus cells per high power field. Culture sensitivity reported Cotrimoxazole as sensitive medication against E.coli which was prescribed in double strength BD for 14 days. Pain in lower abdomen relieved transiently but upper abdomen continued. But pain in lower abdomen recurred after a fortnight.
Urine on c/e showed 0 to 1 pus cells per HPF and culture was negative. Gastroenterologist was consulted who advised u/s whole abdomen which was normal and prescribed Tab Drotin sos, a capsule of probiotic daily. Having no relief in acute pain of abdomen, patient was admitted in emergency of private hospital where patient was investigated for u/ s whole abdomen, ECG, Echocardiography, x-ray abdomen and no abnormalities were found.
